Over time, the Stifler Family Foundation has increased its commitment to local and regional conservation efforts, including the work of the Buzzards Bay Coalition, which offers youth activities such as swimming lessons and shoreline exploration. A surprisingly high percentage of children who grow up in seaside communities have never stepped foot in a boat or swum in the ocean. Many young people in the region lack the opportunity to enjoy these experiences.
Committed to changing this imbalance and to bolstering local conservation efforts, in 2021, Wareham celebrated the completion of the Onset Bay Center, a multi-use building for education and community activities, named in honor of the McFadden family. The OBC intends to welcome all children and their families to learn how to swim, sail, fish and learn about coastal ecology. Our hope is that many more local residents will have access to all that the seashore offers, while building memories and protecting its ecological values for future generations.
